About

Three years on a vehicle claims platform used by leasing and insurance companies: a long-lived Java EE core, and the Spring Boot services and React front end built around it. Most of the work is the unglamorous kind — new features in a codebase people depend on daily, refactoring as I go.

I studied network administration before I wrote software for a living, and it still shows in what I enjoy. I like knowing how the thing I built actually runs: the schema under it, the pipeline that ships it, the machine it lands on.

Everything I build outside work runs on hardware in my own house, deployed by pipelines I wrote.

Experience

Software Engineer at UBench International

October 2023 – Present · Turnhout, Belgium

  • Develop and modernise the legacy Java EE claims-management platform (Hibernate, JSF, PrimeFaces) that leasing and insurance claims managers use daily: new features, refactoring as I go, and JUnit and Mockito coverage, in teams of up to six.
  • Own the Spring Boot service between our claims registration client and our core Java API, where the aggregation, auth and validation live.
  • One of two lead developers on that claims registration application (TypeScript, React, Redux), where drivers report vehicle damage and open a dossier that claims managers pick up; features are shaped directly with the people who use them, not handed over as a finished specification.
  • Integrated an AI service that turns a customer's video of their vehicle into a structured damage report.

Projects

Personal Finance & Investment Tracking Platform

FastAPI · PostgreSQL · Redis · React · TypeScript · Docker

A self-hosted platform for tracking accounts, transactions, net worth and stock portfolios, with benchmarking against the major indices. Async FastAPI over PostgreSQL with Redis caching and scheduled jobs pulling in market data, behind a React 19 frontend. GitLab CI cross-builds arm64 images to a private registry and deploys them to a Raspberry Pi in my house. Built largely with Claude Code, with the architecture and the review kept on my side.
